Imprisoned, Yet God Still Opened Doors – Day 17

As the son of a Hamas founder and leader, Mosab Hassan Yousef saw the hostility and destruction around him, and he hated it. He recognized that living in Gaza he had become a radical.

As a youth, Yousef was arrested by the Israeli government for weapons possession. He spent time in prison as the government tried to get him to divulge all that Hamas in Gaza was doing. They wanted Mosab to reveal, “What is your involvement? Where are the Hamas weapons? Tell us about the organization. Do you know anything about the Islamic youth movement?” Mosab was told, “Israel is a small country, and we have to protect ourselves. We cannot allow anybody to hurt Israeli citizens. We suffered enough our whole lives, and we will not be easy on those who want to hurt our people.”

While a prisoner, he endured brutal treatment at the hands of Israeli soldiers. Life was difficult, but in prison, he witnessed much worse treatment that his fellow Hamas members inflicted on fellow Muslims to keep them in line.

While in confinement, a member of Israel’s security agency, the Shin Bet, approached him. Mosab learned that they knew so much about him, and they wanted him to secretly work with them to help stop the violence and protect and save lives.

His culture—not his father—had taught him that the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) and the Israeli people were his enemies. The young Palestinian was unprepared for the treatment he got from the Shin Bet agents. They were “not trying to break me down or make me do bad things. They seemed to be doing their best to build me up, to make me stronger and wiser,” he said.

“As time went on, I began to question my plan to kill the Israelis,” he recalled. “These people were so kind. They clearly cared about me. Why would I want to kill them? I was surprised to realize that I no longer did.” Every time he met with them, the world he knew from growing up in Gaza was relentlessly eroding, revealing another world he was beginning to understand.

God was intervening, and in our next post, we will share the dramatic change about to take place in Mosab’s life!

Mosab Hassan Yousef – Son of Hamas

Prayer

Through small happenings each day, God was softening Mosab’s heart toward truth. Today this is happening in Muslim lives worldwide, including in our nations. They resist the truth that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Continue to pray that the barriers and resistance to the sonship of Jesus is revealed, enabling them to see how much the true and living God loves them.

Living in Terror, Betrayal and Political Intrigue – Day 16

Mosab Hassan Yousef* born in Gaza in the Middle East, made a dramatic statement. He shared, “Israel has many enemies, but few have been deadlier than the terrorist group in its own back yard.”

Hamas, the governing body of Gaza founded in 1987, is an internationally known terrorist organization. Mosab stated, “Armed with the Koran and the gun, the people of Hamas are trained to hate Israel beginning at early childhood. For more than two (now three) decades, Hamas has terrorized Israelis through suicide bombings to thousands of rocket attacks.” The suicide bombers and shedding of innocent blood resulted in great chaos, both in Israel and Gaza.

While Hamas military leaders were planning attacks on Israeli restaurants and buses, Mosab grew up as the son of a respected Hamas founder, Sheikh Hassan Yousef. Mosab and had a great love for his family. He honored his father and, as the older son, was groomed to be a Hamas “prince,” to succeed his highly respected father in the group’s leadership.

Mosab said he had watched his father struggle with an irrational internal conflict. “On the one hand, he didn’t see those Muslims who killed settlers and soldiers and innocent women and children as wrong,” he writes. “He believed that Allah gave them the authority to do that. On the other hand, he could not personally do what they did. Something in his soul rejected it. What he could not justify as right for himself he rationalized as right for others.”

The IDF (Israeli Defense Force) knew that Mosab’s father was behind much of the violence against Israel. He would be arrested, interrogated, even tortured, and imprisoned. He would be gone from his family for months at a time, return home, only to be imprisoned again. Sheikh Yousef was imprisoned by the IDF thirteen times, and the family struggled financially and emotionally.

Most lived amid terror, betrayal, and political intrigue. How can the love of God touch Mosab to overcome the conflict and anger in his heart? Stay tuned …

Prayer

Romans 5:20 says, “Where sin abounds, grace will abound much more.” The places in society that seem most challenging to reach for the Lord have grace abounding in their midst. Just as in other cultures, sin is abounding in the Muslim world. Declare that grace, favor, blessing, and the kindness of God is being released over their lives, opening their eyes to their need for salvation in Christ.

The Green Prince – Day 15

Gaza, a self-governing Palestinian area, is a tiny strip of land with a crowded population of over 2 million people living on 141 square miles (365 square km). Situated on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, it ranks as the 3rd most densely populated polity in the world.

Gaza is located in the biblical parcel of land (Genesis 15:18-21) that nearly 4,000 years ago, Almighty God gave to Abraham for a nation. The Lord confirmed this in scripture, giving the land to Isaac, to his son, Jacob, and it is validated in many other verses of the Word of God.

What is it like to grow up in the Middle East, specifically in the location of Gaza? Few westerners come close to understanding the complexities of the Middle East and its people. Mosab Hassan Yousef grew up as a son of that region, a child of Islam, and the son of an accused terrorist.

Yes, Mosab is the son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a founding leader of Hamas, internationally recognized as a terrorist organization and responsible for countless suicide bombings and other deadly attacks against Israel.

In his book, “Son of Hamas,” Mosab shared that Israel became a state in 1948; the Palestinians did not want to be a part of that state. Instead, they are a self-governing territory. Gaza is 98%+ Muslim, and Islamic religious law is the highest order, without a constitution to maintain some semblance of order.

Mosab revealed, “Before the age of 21, I saw things no one should ever see: abject poverty, abuse of power, torture, and death. I witnessed the behind-the-scenes dealings of top Middle Eastern leaders who make headlines around the world. I was trusted at the highest levels of Hamas, and I participated in the so-called Intifada. I was held captive in the bowels of Israel’s most feared prison facility. And I made choices that have made me a traitor in the eyes of the people I love.”

As Mosab’s amazing story unfolds over the next few days, we will learn the reason he was called “Green Prince.”

  • Mosab Hassan Yousef – “Son of Hamas”

Prayer

In so much of Muslim society there is abject poverty and abuse of power, a sad existence. The Bible teaches that the times when Jesus was “moved with compassion,” miracles happened. “Heavenly father, we pray for the 1.9 billion Muslims in the world, and in compassion, we declare that the goodness, kindness, and mercy of God is being revealed supernaturally in their lives, drawing multitudes to salvation in Christ.”

Jesus Came in His Glory – Day 14

Kamal Saleem* experienced the trauma of a car accident when his neck was broken in two places and then was shocked that his Christian surgeon invited him to recover in his home. The love from the family, the children praying for him and calling him Uncle Kamal, etc., had left him confused. The Christians that he considered infidels had overwhelmed him with their love.

Kamal recovered and returned to his own home. He sought Allah, crying out to hear from him, and all he heard was silence. Kamal felt that because he questioned his faith, the honorable thing to do was to end his own life.

Kamal shared, “I went to reach for my gun, and suddenly I heard a voice. The voice was so real; it was kind, gentle and meek, like a father’s voice. The voice knew me by name and said, ‘Kamal! Why don’t you call on the Father of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob?’ I fell on my knees and put my hands to the heavens immediately as I heard the voice. I cried out with every fiber within me, ‘God of Father Abraham, if You are real, would You speak to me? I want to know You.’ Well, God of Father Abraham came to the room and filled the room with His glory. His name is Yahweh; the Lord is one. He has holes in His hands. He has holes in His feet. His name is Jesus. I said to Him, ‘Who are you, my Lord? Who are you?’ He said, ‘I am that I am.’ I said, ‘I’m a simple man with a simple mind. What is that supposed to mean?’ He said, ‘I am the Alpha. I am the Omega. I am the beginning. I am the end. I am everything that is in between. I have known you before I formed the foundation of the earth. I have loved you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Rise up! Rise up, Kamal. Come. You are my warrior. You are not their warrior.’ I said to Him, ‘My Lord, I will live and die for you.’ He said, ‘Do not die for me. I died for you so that you may live.’”

That day, instead of taking his life, Kamal yielded it to Jesus and had a total transformation! It is 36 years since he left the Islamic faith, and even threats of violence and death cannot stop him from sharing his story. Through his ministry, KoomeMinistries.com, Kamal now has a new mission for Christ, traveling, speaking, and challenging Muslims to question their allegiance to Allah. Thousands, Muslim and non-Muslim alike, have responded to the call of salvation. Kamal shared, “My heart’s desire is to reach out to my brothers and sisters, the 1.9 billion Muslims who have not tasted the freedom in God, and see them receive His amazing love!”

Prayer

A loving God is calling Muslims to Him. We are at the middle of Ramadan, and because they sacrifice during the day with no food or water, they become weary. Today we declare to Muslims, “Rise up from your weariness to God’s true call on your life! Receive the salvation of the Lord today!”

Silence from Allah – Day 13

After a severe car accident broke Kamal Saleem’s* neck in two places, he had no place for the recovery that would take weeks. His surgeon graciously invited Kamal to stay in his home with their family as his healing took place. Kamal witnessed an outpouring of Christian, unconditional love.

After staying with the physician and his family, Kamal had never experienced this type of love. He saw how they lived their lives. They had a relationship with their God and with one another as husband and wife. Although he had come to their nation from Lebanon with the purpose of destruction, he was trusted. Even the children called him “Uncle Kamal.” After some weeks, the surgeon said, “These are the keys to the house, and this is an extra key to the new car we are giving you. We want to bless you. You can come any time you want.”

Upon recovery, Kamal said, “I went to my home, a cold place where I haven’t been in months. Dust was thick. I knew I had to settle this issue with my God to know if it’s real or not. I walked inside and shut the door. I went right to the eastern window, fell on my knees, put my hands to the heavens, and I cry out, ‘Allah, Allah my lord and my king. Why have you done such a thing to me? I’m okay with the car wreck. I’m okay with all this, but why did you put me among Christians? I’m confused. These Christians and Jews are good people. There’s nothing wrong with them. They don’t want to kill us. They’re not the same thing that I learned in Islam, Allah. These people have a relationship with their God. These people cry out to their God, and He answers them. I want to hear your voice. I want to hear you love me. If you’re real, speak to me. I want to hear your voice.’ Guess what Allah said that day? Absolutely nothing.'”

All Kamal heard was silence, because it is not in Allah’s nature to speak. As a Muslim, Kamal knew that the god of Islam could not be known personally, he reveals his law but not himself. Allah is considered a wrathful god, full of judgment and power but lacking the attributes of holiness, love, purity, and grace. He is not called a ‘father’, and the orthodox Muslim cannot say, “God is Love.”

Thank God, the story does not end here. In our next post, #14, we learn how God ends this amazing account of his life.

Prayer
The agape love of God can reach the heart of a Muslim through Christians who walk in love. Ask God to divinely connect Muslims with loving Christians, enabling them to experience the same love that was felt by Kamal, breaking down the walls of resistance to Christ.

The Love that Never Fails – Day 12

After Kamal Saleem’s* severe car accident that broke his neck in two places, the medical team successfully used a neck brace, but he learned that his recovery would take weeks. Kamal had no family in America and no one to care for him. After being discharged from the hospital, he would need someone to care for him while he recuperated. Although Kamal did not understand what God was doing for him at the time, a caring doctor opened his own home to this stranger and took him in to recuperate. Welcomed as if he was part of their own family, their children treated him with love, something Kamal had never known before. Trained to be a jihad warrior from the age of seven, this doctor had no idea that Kamal had come to America to destroy their way of life.

Kamal could not understand their kindness. “In his home, they put me in the choicest room with the most beautiful things. I became like part of their family. They didn’t see me any different. They had a basket that says, ‘For Kamal.’ They put in money to free my bills from the hospital.”

Kamal shared, “The kids in the home were speaking to me without any violence in their thoughts. They were loving me, touching me, and praying ‘Jesus prayers’ in their little voices for me to recover and be healed.”

This kind of relationship with their God was so new to him. Allah was not a god of relationship, and Kamal was overwhelmed with the outpouring of Christian love. He had no idea that this Christian family was revealing the truth of the Word of God in I Peter 4:8, “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.”

On Day #13, we see Kamal is faced with a life-changing decision between two spiritual worlds, and God’s love will prevail.

Prayer

The essence of God IS love. Muslims live outside of this “agape” love, just as Kamal did. True Christ-like love breaks down traditions, walls, and barriers of deception. Pray that God will reach into their hearts, destroying all obstacles of resistance to His amazing love.

God Reveals Christian Love to Kamal – Day 11

“In Islam, liberty, freedom, and monarchy are idols that must be brought down. The liberty in the United States and western nations is anti-islam, so America must be changed. I moved to the ‘Bible Belt’ specifically, wanted to take on the Christians, the best of the best, because I considered myself as the sword of Islam. I thought, ‘I’m anointed. I’m unique. I’m selected. I’m coming to a country and a culture to change it. I have the power of Allah with me.’” When Kamal Saleem* made this statement, he did not know God’s destiny for him.

In the early 1980s, Kamal entrenched himself in a small Midwestern town. He began targeting men from more impoverished neighborhoods to recruit them to the Muslim faith. But one afternoon, his life would be in the hands of those he hated the most.

“I was going from one place to another to do recruitment, and that day, and I had a car wreck. The car wreck was so severe, I ejected out of my car, landed on my neck, and broke my neck in two places. This man came running to me and said, ‘Don’t worry. We’re going to take care of you, and everything’s going to be alright.’ The ambulance came and picked me up, and I was taken to the hospital. The orthopedic surgeon in the ER looked at my chart and said, ‘Son, we’re going to take care of you, and everything’s going to be alright.’ Then the head of physical therapy came in, read my chart, and said the same thing word for word, ‘We are going to take care of you.’”

At first, Kamal was frightened by their words because these men were all Christians. “You see, in terrorism, if they say [that], you better run.” Those who had spoken to him and said they were going to take care of him and everything was going to be alright, had no idea he had come to the nation to destroy their very way of life.

In Day #12, we will reveal that before Kamal ever knew Jesus, our God provided for him, met his needs, and opened his spiritual eyes.

Prayer

Proverbs 19:21 declares, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.” Pray that God will override the personal plans of the 1.9 billion Muslims, reveal His purpose to their hearts, and give them the courage and strength to respond to His will for their lives.

Agent for Cultural Jihad – Day 10

“We were training for what’s called, ‘Culture Jihad,’ which is shifting cultures. Culture jihad is unlike the sword, unlike the rifle, Culture jihad is not violent. The goal is to infiltrate your world via any outlet where two or more people congregate,” Kamal Saleem has declared.

By his 20s, Kamal Saleem* was chosen to wage cultural jihad on America. He said, “My heart’s greatest desire was to see America, the giant infidel, dead. There were many Muslim groups with the goal of cultural jihad in the United States, and we were working to unify them.”

He shared his first target was the ethnic groups like the African Americans and Hispanics in the prison system. We would tell them, “Islam came to free the black (and Hispanic) people from American slavery. We are here to give you freedom.” We would then tell them, “There’s no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his final prophet and messenger. Once we earned their trust, we would then begin to indoctrinate them with the ideologies of Islam. Then we would meet their families, help them find jobs, meet their needs, and so on.”

Unlike 9/11 (in which an outside force attacked the homeland), cultural jihad is about becoming like the enemy in order to conquer the enemy from within. You have to learn the language and the culture; you have to learn to eat, speak and blend into the target society.

In order to conquer the world, we were also taught to work in the Western world specifically through the women. Kamal was told, “Women would be easier to convert to Islam. The women are easy. Tell them you love them, and before you know it, they will fall for you.” The strategy was to marry them and acquire a green card and citizenship.

Yes, Kamal had an objective. What he did not realize was that was not God’s objective for him. (More will be shared in Day #11.)

  • Testimony was given directly by Kamal Saleem of KoomeMinistries.com

Prayer

Kamal did not know that God had a specific plan, and no one can stop God’s plan, not even the enemy. Around the world, there are Muslims, called by God, who have not yet responded. As they are seeking during Ramadan, pray for them that the one true God, our heavenly Father, will reveal His call, His plan for each individual Muslim, bringing them to salvation in Christ and God’s destiny.

Terrorized to Become a Jihadi – Day 9

“I had a dream as a child. I was dressed in the long white shorts Muslim children wear, and I was riding a white horse. In each arm I held a double-edged sword. In front of me stood the enemies of Allah; they were Jews and Christians. I cried out, ‘For Islam!’ and ran into the battlefield. Their elite warriors came at me, and I challenged them, causing chaos among them. I conquered them and took off their heads with the sword so that their heads were rolling under the feet of Allah. In my dream I was martyred, and when I came before the throne of Allah, he was laughing and said, ‘Only my crazy Kamal could do this.'”

What he experienced in this dream was Kamal Saleem’s Islamic worldview from childhood. The dream reflected the Sunni beliefs of his family, and for him, jihad was birthed from infancy. As early as four years old, Kamal remembers sitting at the kitchen table while his mother taught him about the Qur’an and reciting it to include his duty to Allah and jihad.

He shared, “We interpreted the Qur’an as Muslim zealots. Moderate Muslims were seen as infidels that must be Islamized. From my childhood, my mom said, ‘One day, you’ll be a martyr, my son. You will die for the sake of Allah, and you will exalt Islam. If you kill a Jew, my son, your hand will light up before the throne of Allah and the host of heaven will celebrate what you have done.’”

By the age of seven, Kamal was being trained to be a jihad warrior. Not only could he handle a machine gun, but he learned to make bombs and to slip into enemy territory to use the gun and bombs.

Kamal shared, “What happens to the mind of children who are exposed to that dehumanization? The breaking of our spirits came at a young age when our moms and dads taught us this was the path. The Muslim religious leaders, known as Imams, taught us hate and anger with the intent to take over the world. Then they would send us into killing fields to desensitize us to murder. We were programmed to believe that this was how we were to live our lives.”

Fortunately, this is not the end of Kamal’s story. In the next several posts, we will show how Almighty God transformed his life.

  • Testimony given directly by Kamal Saleem of KoomeMinistries.com

Prayer

Jihad warriors are not born that way; instead, they are trained to be fighters by their family, society, and religion. We know that dreams and visions impact Muslims. Pray that the Lord will invade Islamic society with powerful, convicting dreams and visions that will bring them out of darkness, enabling them to learn of the truth of Jesus.

An Amazing New Life in Christ – Day 8

His life was transformed that Sunday morning, July 3,1994 when God revealed Himself to Faisal Malick* as his heavenly father! Immediately he realized that Jesus Christ is Lord. All his life he had been an observant Muslim and had fulfilled everything required by Islam. Now, through revelation, he realized that none of what he had been taught in his religion was true. Words cannot express the radical change that came when he realized that Jesus was now the Lord of his life.

Six months later, the Spirit of God and His holy Presence filled the little room where Faisal was living. He experienced the pure life and substance of Heaven for three hours and his life was divinely changed. He shared, “First, I had an intense love for God like I never had before, and an intense supernatural hunger to know Him more. Second, I had a deeper, unconditional love for people. Third, I had an intense love and supernatural hunger for the Word of God. I picked up the Bible and could not put it down for 36 hours straight.” He continued, “The Holy Spirit became my teacher and was writing His word on my heart.”

From that moment in the incredible presence of God, a special grace came upon him. It overflowed to others and the fruit was evidenced in the fact that in the next three years, 99 percent of the people he knew, including Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims and atheists were giving their lives to Jesus and were born again. It was truly by the Holy Spirit that in the next three years he led 1,500 people to know Christ.

Currently, Faisal is the lead pastor of a thriving congregation in Langley, British Columbia. He believes the Lord has spoken to him, “The wall of Islam has fallen in the spirit that has kept the Muslim people hostage. It is only a matter of time when it becomes common knowledge that the wall of Islam has fallen.”

Prayer

God is moving mightily in the Muslim world. As we join millions of Christians during Ramadan, praying for Muslims to receive Christ, let us believe and declare that the “thread of Islam is unraveling,” and the revelation and truth of God are being received in their lives.
